My Collins grandfather was born in Kineton, Warwickshire, England. His family moved there from Blockley, Gloucestershire (then Worcestershire) in the early 1820s after a single generation living in near Blockley in a small village called Paxton. The family had previously lived in Imber and the Deverills in Worcestershire.

“Bramshall, or Bromshall, a small village, on the north bank of a little rivulet, two miles W of Uttoxeter, has a station on the North Staffordshire Railway. Its parish includes the hamlet of Dagdale, on a declivity, half a mile N of the church, and contains 170 inhabitants and about 1300 acres of land. Lord Willoughby-de-Broke is the principal land owner, lord of the manor, and patron of the rectory. The south side of the village, called Little Bromshall, is in Uttoxeter parish.”

Notes for Jacob PEPLER or COLLINS K84G-VTG:
First I constructed trees for all the possible William Collinses identified by Mike Collins as potential baptismal records for William Collins (1764-1841). William Collins, son of Jacob Collins Alias Pepler and his wife Hester Alford is the only one whose subsequent life fit (given farm labourers didn’t usually move around much in the mid 18th century) The following is the result of months of research.

The local parishes were responsible (until 1834) for the relief of the poor within their parish boundaries. That is why a note is usually made of the home parish of someone getting married or having a child christened or being buried in a parish other that their designated home as if there were expenses not paid, the home parish was responsible. Need to have the quarter sessions register researched for the Removal proceedings.

In the case of Jacob Collins and his family the ‘home parish’ was designated as Kingston Deverill. This becomes important later as there are TWO removal orders where parishes in Wiltshire paid to have the family removed to the Parish of St Andrews Holborn, London (and both wives were buried there.)

Jacob Collins and Hester Alford were married in Warminster St Denys, however a Hester Alford, child of Caleb and Jane Alford was christened at Holburn St. Andrews on 22 Mar 1735 thus providing a possible reason why the family were removed there.

The first was in 1763 from on 4 Jun 1763 Jacob COLLINS, Hester Alford his wife; their 4 children: Benjamin (5), Elizabeth (3), Martha (2) and Job (8 months) were removed from Upton Scudamore, Wiltshire to St Andrews, Holborn, London They had a son, William 1 there in 1764 (Christening recorded in Holborn St Andrews). Hester died when he was 3 months old and is buried in Holborn St Andews with his sisters Elizabeth, Martha and brother Job. That left his brother Benjamin and William (3 months old) unaccounted for. Children Benjamin’s age were sometimes apprenticed out by Workhouses but there is no Workhouse record of either child.

Jacob Collins (of Brixton Deverill) and Grace Moody (of Monkton Deverill) had banns called in Brixton Deverill 31 Jan 1767 (no marriage recorded), marriage recorded in Longbridge Deverill 14 Feb 1768

William 2 was baptized 19 Feb 1969, John 29 Apr 1770, Elizabeth on Sep 15 1771, Stephen on Dec 27 1772 (bur 1773) , and Grace on 1 May 1774 in Monkton Deverill.

The 2nd removal order was in 1775 when Monkton Deverill paid to have Jacob, Grace and 4 children, William 2 age 5, John 4, Elizabeth 5, and Grace, 9 months removed to St Andrews, Holborn. Jacob, having lived there during his previous Removal could have changed his Settlement to Holburn St Andrew although there is no record of it easy available.

Grace , Elizabeth (20 Aug 1776. Elizabeth Collins, a child died) and Grace Jr (a child aged 2, admitted to the Workhouse on 1 Aug 1776 Discharged 20 Aug 1776 a child died) are all buried in Holburn St Andrews

Jacob was discharged from the Shoe Lane Workhouse on 20 July 1776

On 26 Feb1777 William 2 and John were discharged from the Workhouse and sent to be with their Father.
